Here's something I wrote that doesn't contain anything gory or offensive. It even has quite a happy ending. Still, it's a translation, so there might be mistakes in the grammar. Arrgh. So, here goes:
***
Anything Ends.
Today was the last day of Charlie and Sasha’s on Earth – the twenty years Annabelle promised them will expire tonight.
Charlie woke up in a good mood, which he hasn't got for about last three years. He had a lot of troubles to take care of, but today was his day off. Sasha was still sleeping, when Charlie went out to the yard to take a breath of fresh morning air. But when he left the house, he stopped as if thunderstruck, recalling what day is it today…
-M-m-m... What is it, Charlie? It's only half past six – Sasha mumbled.
-Sasha, wake up, you will not want to spend this day sleeping! It's our... – Charlie hesitated a bit, - ..our last day on Earth.
Sasha jumped up from the floor as if scalded...
...They've decided to spend the day walking through the whole San Francisco – or at least, the places where something memorable has ever happened. There and then they left the house – they haven't got too much time to hesitate/
First of all they've headed to the Flea Bite - the place where Charlie's heart was captured by Sasha's beauty.
Slowly walking on the sidewalk, Charlie was thinking about something he would never think so much before - about life and death. “Darn it, twenty years...” Any dog would give anything for living this much. “Life... What is it? A prelude? A trial? A purgatory?” – Charlie was so deep into his thoughts that he even stumbled upon stuff a few times.
Sasha simply looked around to remember the city she lived in so long, -the city in which she was born, in which she lived, in which she's walked through so much trouble and through so much pleasant things…City where she met Charlie. She looked at him with tender, recalling their first date. It was so clumsy... Sasha smiled to her memories.
Charlie was suffering unimaginable melancholy along the way. He has lived so much in this city, so many things he has gone through... Charlie was floating in his memories when he heard Sasha calling him from quite far behind:
- Hey, Mr. Soar-in-clouds, would you be so kind to come back here? – Sasha laughed as confused Charlie, who was pulled out of his inner world, turned back hastily and came back to Sasha, who stopped at the Flea Bite's entrance.
Everything looked the same in the old café - some singer at the stage was singing a sad song, accompanied by a saxophone's sobbing. The counter was polished as always. The only thing that changed was the new barman – the old one died a few years ago, standing at the counter. Charlie was present at the old barman's funeral. However, the new barman, who was a young mutt, did his duties alright. Charlie and Sasha ordered a drink. “The last drink ever” Charlie thought sadly. After the drink, Charlie and Sasha stayed in the café a bit more and then headed off to continue their last walk.
-Where will we go next, my dear? – Sasha asked.
-Um-m… park, maybe? – Charlie replied after a little hesitation.
-Nice idea! – Sasha said gently, looking at Charlie with love, following him to the park.
The park was one of their favorite places – they spent almost every day off there. When they arrived, it was still morning, and the trees around were fresh green. Charlie sighed.
-Why do keep sighing all the way? Enjoy your living! – Sasha said, hopping around him as if she was a pup. – Come on, we're not dead yet!
-You are right, Sasha, - Charlie said, shaking head, as if trying to shake all the sad thoughts off. Then he looked around again. So many memories... He looked at the bench nearby/ They sat at this bench five years ago when Sasha was crying because of the sad news about her mom, and Charlie was calming her down ... And under those two maples, they were arranging picnics with their neighbors... It will all soon be gone. Charlie sighed one more time.
- Oh, Charlie, stop sighing! I'm sick and tired of it! – Sasha pretended to be offended.
- Oh, forgive me, I won't anymore – Charlie said. He pushed Sasha a little bit and then ran away. “Catch me if you can!” he said as Sasha started to chase him as if she were a young, careless puppy. They both laughed when Sasha has finally reached Charlie and knocked him off feet, falling to the ground herself. They rolled on the ground then, laughing and enjoying their time…
…In spite of the fact that Annabelle has given both Charlie and Sasha an eternal youth, there was something that still gave their age out. Their eyes. For the whole twenty years, - unimaginable term for a mere dog! – their eyes kept everything Charlie and Sasha have gone through - pleasure and grief, surprises and disappointments... And, of course, love, which Charlie and Sasha kept in their hearts for their whole life...
…Been out of breath, they have sat down to have a rest after their childish games.
-Haven't had so much fun since I was a pup! – Charlie said excitedly
-I'm so glad you've snapped out of your melancholy! – Sasha replied. – We still have half day to spend. Shall we go to the center of the city?
-Sure! - Charlie agreed.
On the way to the city center Sasha started to think of what will happen to them. Unlike Charlie, she hasn't ever been to Heaven, and she didn't understand Charlie's melancholy. Why is he so sad? Heaven has everything in it, all the best things in the world! “Interesting, and how there, in this paradise?” Sasha thought.
- Hey, Mrs. Soar-in-clouds, we've arrived! – Charlie grinned as Sasha went on, deep in her own mind.
They both laughed and then turned around a corner. The city's heart spread before them. It would me more beautiful at night when the neon is on. But now it was rush hour there. Charlie liked it here – it's so life-full! They passed by the places which gave them a lot of things to remember – they hid behind that garbage container when they were evading the dog pound, and that restaurant's kind cook gave them decent meal every Saturday...
Charlie finally seized the fact that he won't be able to be here tomorrow. After all, what did he suffice in Heaven? It was love. Now he has it, and he will have it forever… so why be upset? – this thoughts cheered Charlie up.
Sasha started to doubt. Soon it all will be over… Sasha tried to cheer herself up, but it didn't do any good. She has even become depressed.
It was getting dark already.
-Hey, why the sad look? – Charlie asked, noticing Sasha's depression.
No, it's nothing – Sasha replied, interrupting her sad thoughts. – Shall we go to the Golden Gate now? It's getting dark, and we could get home faster from there...
-Whatever you wish – Charlie said, turning in the direction of the bridge.
On the way to the Golden Gate, Sasha almost lost her cool. It turned out that she actually didn't want anything to change…
Cool breeze was blowing at the bridge. Sasha stopped thinking about sad stuff to enjoy the moment.
-Sasha, look, - Charlie said in a whispering tone, - it's the sunset.
Sunset was indeed magnificent. It's been a while since they watched sunset from the Golden Gate. The clouds were light-pink, the sky was bright purple. It caused deep feelings inside...
On the way home Sasha has burst into tears. Charlie started to calm her immediately..
– There, there, Sasha, don't you cry!
– Charlie, I'm scared! I got used to this life, I don't want to… to… - Sasha's voice drowned in sobbing.
– Don't cry, c’mon – Charlie said in a calming tone, - you will like it there...
Sasha cried a bit more, having her muzzle buried in Charlie's fur, and then asked his, sobbing:
– Charlie, tell me, what is it like up there? – Sasha asked, looking into Charlie's eyes.
– Well... - Charlie started to talk and kept talking until they've reached the house. It was dark already.
– Soon we'll be there... - Sasha whispered, having burst into tears again after that.
After a while Charlie calmed her down eventually. Tired and excited, they laid down on the floor, recalling the brightest moments of their life, sighing occasionally. Finally, not being able to resist sleep anymore, they went off to sleep.
– Itchy, we're coming! – Charlie said with a smile, falling asleep….
This night Sasha had a dream – she flied up through the clouds where music of unearthly beauty sounded. Charlie, who flied nearby, let her know that it's not a dream…
The end.
