My personally top 10 Pre-2000 (For convenience) Animated Songs.
But first, some guidelines for what qualifies.
1. It must be in an animated movie released prior to January 1st, 2000.
2. To define "Movie", it must be a feature length film (Normally ~90 minutes for animations) released for movie theatres. That means no Direct-To-Video sequels, no fan productions, and no TV movies.
3. The song, while it doesn't have be very long song, must be an original song created for said movie.
4. I am judge. That's why it's an opinion. If I have not heard of a song, then obviously it cannot be on the list.
5. All songs (with one exception) on the list were chosen in rank based on the Soundtrack version.
Now then: The List
10. The Little Brave Toaster - "Cutting Edge"
Notes/Why?: Starting with a film that I'd call one of the greatest animations of all time, "Cutting Edge" is the 3rd of 4 songs. In it, the 'cutting edge appliances' describe just how 'cutting edge' they are. Granted, compared to today, they're heaps of scrap metal.
9. All Dogs Go To Heaven 2 - "Count Me Out"
Notes/Why?: Sasha's introductory song gets the 9 spot in the list. One thing real quick: if you can, try to find a soundtrack for the film and listen to that version of this song. Much less extra noise makes the song twice as good.
8. All Dogs Go To Heaven - "Let Me Be Surprised"
Notes/Why?: I'm losing board karma for this... This song reaches number 8 in the list only because, despite being my favorite song from the first film, the other 7 just out-perform. But the song is still very good. It beat out about 98% of the Disney Renaissance.
7. Aladdin - "Friend Like Me"
Notes/Why?: Note, this is the only Aladdin song to be on the list. I personally hate "A Whole New World" but this song is another story! Robin Williams was the perfect choice for the song, being as random as the song is.
6. The Little Brave Toaster - "B-Movie"
Notes/Why?: Gasp, the same movie on here twice! Get used to it. "B-Movie", the 2nd of 4 songs in that film, is an homage/parody to horror films and disco: both of which are almost all terrible now-a-days. But the song gets a thumbs up from me. I severed, bloody, stitched thumb.
5. Oliver & Company - "Why Should I Worry?"
Notes/Why?: Disney does it again with the good music! This time, just before the 'great era' in Disney. The lead song in the film, this song was the main inspiration for me to go out and buy the film. Matched with the acting and animation, of course.
4. The Lion King - "Be Prepared"
Notes/Why?: Bite me. This is the best song in the film IMHO. Scar is perfect in his evilness, going so far as to make a nod to Hitler. However, the song only peaks at number 4 here, doomed to be beat by...
3. All Dogs Go To heaven 2 - "It's Too Heavenly Here"
Notes/Why?: Ooh, I'm getting hell for this one. This is the last representative of the All Dogs franchise. But hey, what a song. I especially enjoy the second 'break down' if I may call it that. What good's a hustler, without a scam?
2. The Little Brave Toaster - "Worthless"
Notes/Why?: Yes. a third song. The last song the film, this song is the best the film offers. A groovy baseline, awesome singing, and drums to rival Lars Ulrich. Words cannot describe just HOW great the song is. Just go find it on Youtube...the soundtrack version is best.
1. Oliver & Company - "Streets of Gold"
Notes/Why?: One: The singing is fantastic. Two: The instruments work together perfectly. Three: Awesome Sax solo. Four: Addictive. Anything else would be treason, so...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmRwIR0Lm3U. Go there.
