Hello Everyone, It's Nav, I thought of branching off of Charmyte's Top Ten, with my own top ten greatest songs in a animated movie, I will be providing 10 songs and Reasons to each song to why I consider them the greatest using Charmyte's format (with permission so it doesnt seem like Im copying him)
Here's my list:
10. Quest for Camelot: "On My Father's Wings" Performed by The Corrs
Notes/Why?: Starting with one of the most underated movies, but with an award winning soundtrack. Being the second song in the movie, I consider it as my top favorite in that very movie.
9. The Hunchback of Notre Dame: "God Help The Outcasts" Performed by Heidi Mollenhauer
Notes/Why?: Esmerelda is my most favorite character within that movie, she represents the kind and understanding side of a misguided and quick to shun society, being the first human character to show Quasimodo true kindness and frienship and possessing the will to fight back against a corrupted dictator like Frollo.
8. An American Tail: "Somewhere Out There" performed by Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram
Notes/Why?: This one is great because it gives the one listening a feeling of hope, the hope that there is that one someone for them "In that big somewhere out there"
7. Mulan: "Reflections" performed by Lea Salonga
Notes/Why?: This song is not only Mulan's theme but it also shows that she is struggling with trying to please and preserve her family's honor, and we all can relate to that kind of struggle.
6. Beauty and the Beast: "Beauty and the Beast" peformed by Angela Lansbury/ Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson
Notes/Why?: This song makes the list because it heralds the most memorable scene (In my opinion) in disney history, the ballroom scene between Belle and the Beast and the spectacular performance from Angela Lansbury just connects all of this together into one fantastic song. With the Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson version, you just have to listen to it from start to finish when the end credits begin, because you feel a warmth inside that just touches your heart and childhood all together.
5. Anastasia: "Journey to the Past" Peformed by Liz Callaway
Notes/Why?: Life is a endless road of twists and turns, and this song makes the list because it represents the hope and desire to search for the one thing "to bring you home at last"
4. The Little Mermaid: "Part of your World" Performed by Jodi Benson
Notes/Why?: A Personal favorite of mine as I loved the little mermaid while growing up and the first disney song I sang along with. The Little Mermaid had also taken Disney out of their Dark ages and continues to remain a classic to this very day, After all, dont we all want to explore other places and worlds?
3. All Dogs Go To Heaven 2: "It's Too Heavenly Here" Peformed by Jessie Corti
Notes/Why?: Another personal favorite and the very first song I sang for my friends, I remember just stopping the movie to rewind it back to the beginning of this song and replaying it over and over, I never got tired of it and it has a special place in my heart and cementing Charlie Barkin as my favorite animated Character.
2. All Dogs Go To Heaven 2: "I Will Always Be With you" Peformed by Jesse Corti and Sheena Easton
Notes/Why?: My top most FAVORITE song in that entire movie, beautifully animated and even more beautifully sung love song between Charlie and Sasha, cementing them as my most favorite animated couple and giving me the inspiration to write!
aaannnndddd the moment of truth.... the greatest song (I think) is...
1. Pocahontas: "If I Never Knew You" Peformed by Jon Secada and Shanice
Notes/Why?: The song was also sung by Pocahontas and John Smith in the Anniversary DVD release of the movie and was performed beautifully, this movie was possibly the only movie that made me cry with the wonderfully spectacular pieces that Alan Menken wrote for the movie and this song just brought it all home.
Again, this is all my own opinion, please feel free to comment on these selections
