This thread is devoted to talking all about the REAL Balto and the other genuine hero dogs (and their mushers) who saved Nome, Alaska from the diptheria epidemic in 1925. If you don't know much about these true canine gaurdian angels, a great site is www.baltostruestory.com. I particularly recommend reading about another four-legged hero by the name of Togo. Long live these heroic dogs!

You said it Soapy! God bless them!
I love Balto, but I also love Togo. He actually reminds me a lot of Charlie. From the damaged ear to the wild behavior, he was an amazing dog.

Do you like the real Balto or the animated one more? I love both, but it is kinda sad in my opinion that the real dog isn't as famous or loved as the animated version.

Both. Also, did you know Balto was the first dog to win the Ididorod?

I'm glad you love both Soapy, but the Iditarod wasn't even started until the early 1970s I think. Trust me. I just read a great book on the real serum run. Once again, I think you sll should check out the site Balto's True Story at Baltostruestory.com
