Charlie is the mysterious stranger who's been tailing Hedge, but he hadn't expected her to be so brave as to seek him out. As she starts coming his way, he can't really see her through the fog, but his other senses tell him she's coming closer. He immediately takes flight, not wanting to be found out as he intends to keep this up for a while. If she finds out it's him, that will ruin his future plans of spooking her again.

*Hedge can't see the figure, but she can hear him panting and she's pretty darn sure who it is... she'd recognize that scent anywhere!!!!*
"Charlie! You stinkin' mongrel! Up to your old tricks again, huh? What did I ever do to you to deserve you to treat me so bad?" *Hedge snarls at the retreating figure... still running, determined to catch him... now that she's gotten a good whiff of him*

As Hedge reveals the identity of the stalker and chases after him, Killer is almost quick to follow. Greyhound lineage, yes, but age and weight slow him down a great deal.
"Hedge!" he pants, "Wait up! W-what if...he's...leading us into some sort of...trap?"
Concerned more for Hedge's safety than his own, he struggles to keep up, but continues trying to talk the great dane out of pursuing Charlie in the darkness and fog...especially in this unfamiliar part of town.

OOC: I like your animated pic, Hedge. ;D
BIC: Charlie doesn't answer, but continues running, picking up speed to try and escape the two dogs on to his game. He doesn't care for either one of them, mostly because they work for Carface. He doesn't dislike Hedge as much as he dislikes Killer, but in order to do him in, he has to get rid of Hedge. The great dane seems to have taken up the self-appointed task of protecting the old mutt.

Ruby Gem happens to be taking a late night stroll and sees the procession. "What in Beelzebub's name are you doing, mutt?" she yells at Killer. "It looks like you're just playing with fire again." From outward appearances, she seems to take pleasure from insulting the other dog.

Still running to try and keep up with Hedge, Killer looks back over his shoulder as he hears a familiar voice shout at him. He can't see who it is through the dense fog and it takes a moment for it to register who the speaker is.
"I'm not playing with fire," he shouts in reply, "I'm trying to keep up with a speedy Great Dane and praying it doesn't give me a heart attack!"
He doesn't know exactly where Ruby is and he doesn't pause to try and figure it out for fear that he may lose Hedge and something bad might happen to her.

Ruby laughs unkindly. "A heart attack would be one of the worst kinds of fire to play with," she says, tossing her head. Her curiosity is aroused, she admits to herself, so she smirkingly follows along to see what happens.

*Speaks over her shoulder to Killer...*
"Maybe you should heed that voice in the dark I hear and just give it a rest, Killer... I can't stop now... don't worry about me... I can take care of myself..."
*Slowing down for Killer, was her downfall... from nowhere Hedge feels the dogcatcher's noose around her neck... she yelps and struggles to break free... begins to snarl at her apprehender... but it's of little use...*

Killer glances back to see if Ruby has come into view. A bit ruffled by her sarcastic remarks, he bites back a soft growl. When he turns to face forward once again, he realizes Hedge has disappeared.
"Uh...Hedge?" he asks softly, his pace slackening to a trot, "Hedge? HEDGE?!"
He comes to a halt and resorts to shouting when he receives no answer. He nervously turns a complete circle, staring wide-eyed into the mist, totally spooked by his companion's sudden and silent vanishing. He shakes off the fright after a moment and struggles to collect his wits. Sniffing around, he picks up the threatening human scent that cannot be mistaken--the smell of a dog-catcher. This alone is enough to make him panic as he relates such humans to his painful past, but he forces himself to remain calm. He's not alone. He knows Ruby is somewhere nearby and if ever there was a time that he would dare ask her for help, that time would be now.
"Ruby," he calls in the direction her voice had come from before, "Ruby, where are you? There's big trouble. Th-the Great Dane I mentioned earlier...well...she's been...dognapped! You've gotta help me find her, but first I need to find you. Where are ya? Please say you'll help me even though I'm a nuisance and an invalid and a disgrace to canine kind!"

Ruby isn't impressed.
"Help you? I see no reason why I should." She shrugs. "But that Great Dane definitely needs help." She leaps down from the roof of a building where she's been standing. "And where the heck did that Barkin character go to?" she demands. She likes Charlie even less than she likes Killer, and she wants to be sure she knows where he is at all times.

Killer growls bitterly at the mention of Charlie. As far as he's concerned, he couldn't care less where that trash hound disappeared to. In his mind, Charlie's the no-good mutt behind this whole mess. He's as certain as he can be that this is all a set-up.
"Who cares where he is?" he grumbles, having now been reassured as Ruby is vaguely in view through the fog, "He's a double-crossin', good-for-nothin', low-down...double-crossin' good-for-nothin'! I dunno where he is and I don't care. I just wanna find Hedge and get her back where she belongs before somethin' really bad happens. Are you with me or not?"
Killer almost seems brave as he speaks. His anger at Charlie having been roused quite a bit, he's ready to go it alone should Ruby refuse to help him. Of course, if he loses his anger, he'll lose his nerve with it and then he'll be back to square one.

"Ha! Busted," Charlie snickers, having realized he's managed to pull off his little scheme, "One down, one to go. And now that that Hedge chick is out of the way, I don't have to worry about losing Itchy. Now I just have to get rid of that four-eyed freak, Killer." He remains hidden nearby, listening to Ruby and Killer talking. "Getting rid of that fat sap ought to be a cinch," he chuckles to himself.

Ruby snorts. "I care, you idiot, and if you had brains, you would too. Any minute he could try to off us both!"
She resumes walking. "And I already said that Hedge needs help. I'm willing to get her out of that crummy place," she says icily. "After all, you'll need someone with brains to come along if you expect to ever bust her loose."

*Hedge cannot believe this is happening... happening... happening... Her mind shuts down as she feels her body picked up by the neck and thrust into a cold steel van.... hears the door slamming shut behind her... trapped... sick in her stomach... unbelievable... the ride is short... she is unceremoniously pulled from the van and thrown headlong into a concrete cage... she hears other dogs barking... crying... panting...*
"I don't belong here!" she cries in her mind, her throat closed and dry... Desperately she crawls into a corner of the cage and buries her face in her paws...
