OOC- HAPPY BIRFDAY, HEDGE!!! BIC- Killer instinctively snaps back into his servile mode as he senses Ruby's aggravation and knows he's the cause of it. He can feel the hairs along his spine rise as he gets the chilling feeling that someone is watching them."Well, of...of course, I'm gonna need somebody with brains to--" he blinks as the insult finally sinks in and he shoots Ruby a poisonous look, "Hey! You--" He falls silent as he hears a vehicle door slam somewhere close by. He turns in that direction and listens for a moment and, sure enough, he hears an engine start up and gradually fade away."Okay, since you're the smarter one, what's the plan?" he asks, not at all sounding resentful or sarcastic, accustomed to being the "stupider" one in any duo situation because of Carface, "D'you really think I was right...about Charlie being behind this?" He really doesn't want to be right. He'd rather have it be one of those in-the-wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time situations as he is quite fearful of Charlie, though he doesn't like to admit it.

Ruby listens to the engine, then turns back to him. "We should find the pound first, then see how tough the security is and all that stuff."
Now she snorts. "And of course Barkin's behind this. Who else would be? He's just the kind of low-down, dirty dog who'd pull somethin' like this!"

Killer swallows hard and glances warily over his shoulder, certain a pair of eyes are watching from the dense eerie blue fog.
"I was afraid of that," he whimpers, turning back to Ruby, "I know where the pound is...or...at least...I know where it is when it's not foggy. All this mist has me totally confused. Ya think we might need some tools--like lock-picks, blow-torches, pliers...stuff like that...to bust her out with?"

Ruby shrugs. "They'd probably come in handy. Or we could just bust the doors in with your head."

OOC: Thanks for the birthday greeting, Killer! ROTFL at Ruby's reply of busting the door down with Killer's head!!!!!
BIC: *The concrete is cold and damp... it sends an ache through Hedge's bones... she's too dazed to think just now, but one thing's for certain, she knows she cannot be friends or even think of ever trusting Itchy as long as he is friends with Charlie... and she vows to herself right then and there that WHEN she gets out of this awful place, she's gonna find him... and justice will prevail... keeping her head between her paws, she falls into a fitful sleep waiting for morning to come... She wonders vaguely if Killer is okay... and hopes that the voice she heard behind him is friend and not foe... for Killer's sake... and hers*

Killer doesn't favor Ruby's alternate suggestion in the least. In fact, he gets a headache just thinking about doing things that way.
"I like my idea better," he replies shortly, "Wait here and I'll go get the stuff."
Without hesitating to give himself a chance to get scared of setting out on his own, he charges off into the dense fog in the direction of Carface's Casino...at least, he hopes he's going in that direction.

"Going somewhere, fat dog?" Charlie sneers as he steps out of the shadows, heading Killer off about halfway to the casino. He had waited for this moment and took great care to tail Killer without being seen. Now he has the old mutt right where he wants him, the way he wants him...alone.

Ruby, not content to "wait here"---and certainly not content with letting someone tell her what to do---she follows Killer silently through the fog, and eventually sees Charlie cornering him.
"Bird brain," she mutters. "Now I guess I'll havta do something."
Without warning, she sashays out of the shadows until she's directly in front of Charlie.

Killer yelps and jumps back, startled by Charlie's sudden appearance. He instinctively cowers down in fear, having no desire nor the audacity to get in a fight with the other dog. He knows what the outcome would be.
"I...I-I-I...I was j-just...uhh..." he swallows hard as he can't even find the courage to run for it, but then he thinks about Hedge and realizes he's looking at the mutt responsible for what happened to her and he slowly rises, jaw set and eyes narrowed, "I'm on to you and your game, Chuck. You won't get away with it either."
By now, Killer has come to his full four-legged height once again as he attempts to stare the guilty dog down. However, it isn't long before he feels uneasy again and that sliver of fear worms its way back into him. At a loss for what he should do, his mind races aimlessly, but then, to his relief, Ruby appears from seemingly out of nowhere.

"You're in no position to make threats, old dog," Charlie replies in an icy, calm tone as he paces closer to where Killer has resumed his snivelling stance. He is just about to haul him up by his collar when Ruby intercepts him. "Well...Ruby," he chuckles, trying to hide his slight shock, "Who'd have thought you'd show up of your own accord on the same street with...this," he sidesteps her enough to reach around and drag Killer forward with a look of disgust. "Honestly, I must say you surprised me. But you do know your hanging with a dangerous crowd being around Carface's cronies. If you know what's good for you, you'll make like the wind and blow. Four-eyes and I have a little business to deal with here and it's no place for a lady. Could get messy, you know."

Killer can't help but wonder if Ruby would sooner help Charlie waste him than actually bail him out. He doesn't dare move as the German Shepherd drags him forward, but he does instinctively brace all four paws in a vain attempt of resistance. He silently shoots Ruby a pleading glance, praying that she will either heed Charlie's warning or figure out a plan to get both of them out of here. Anything works just so long as she doesn't join Charlie in his misfit-mutt, Carface-crony bashing.

Ruby starts to laugh---that dangerous, throaty laugh that spells doom for her enemies. "A lady," she purrs. "That's gotta be the biggest joke I've heard in months. Me, a lady? HA!" She moves closer, grabbing Charlie viciously by the fur around his neck. She absolutely can't stand him and would be willing to do anything to get his goat---including rescuing that idiot mutt Killer. "You know somethin'? I'm just here to chew bubblegum and kick butt . . . and I'm all out of bubblegum."

"Oh, is that a threat?" Charlie snorts, not the least bit intimidated as he keeps his grasp firm on Killer's collar.

OOC- ROTFL! BIC- Killer shudders in response to Ruby's menacing laugh. It makes him feel uneasy and he really thinks Charlie is foolish to defy her. Right now, he sees a striking similarity between Carface and Charlie...when it comes to women anyway."I don't mean to butt in," he says timidly and in a half-choked tone due to Charlie's grip on his collar, "But...Charlie, if it was me talking, you could safely call it a threat, but Ruby said it, so I'd classify it as a promise."

Ruby tightens her grip on Charlie's throat. "The mutt's right, you know," she hisses. "It's a promise, and I'm gonna keep it right now." She begins to squeeze, while at the same time viciously stepping on Charlie's paw.
