Warning: If you do not like the idea of Charlie and Flo stay away from this!
Charlie opened his eyes. Next to him lay Sasha's warm form curled up in a tight ball. Charlie guiltily slunk out of the room of their New Orleans Hotel. He just had to know. It had been three years since Charlie had seen his old girlfriend, the scruffy young collie, Flo. Ever since he met Sasha, Flo had been the furthest thing from Charlie's mind, but now that he was back in New Orleans he couldn't help but think about her.
Carefully padding down the hotel hall, Charlie inched his way past Itchy and Bess's room. CRACK! Charlie cursed under his breath as the floor panel beneath him creaked. He waited with baited breath, praying that he wouldn't wake anyone. As the minutes ticked by, Charlie regained his confidence and continued out onto the New Orleans street.
The soft pitter patter of rain soothed Charlie's senses as he searched for the old church where Flo lived. The familiar cobble streets soon led him to the church's drive. Nervously, Charlie made his way up the the stone entrance.
"Flo."called Charlie,"Are you here?"
Silence. He called out again.
"Flo! It's me Charlie!"
"Uncle Charlie?" rasped a voice to his right.
Charlie whirled around to see Peggy, one of the old orphan pups. She was older than he remembered, and less lively. Her fur was dirty and rank. Charlie could see her ribs under her dark pelt.
"Yes Peggy...Is Flo here?"
"I'm afriad she's not." answered Peggy. "She left when all of us pups grew older."
"Where are all the other pups." asked Charlie.
Now that he though about it, the old church was dead quiet. Nothing could be heard but Peggy's hoarse breathing.
"They all left. I am the only one who stayed." Suddenly her eyes brightened" Hey Charlie! Do you remember that time you brought us all pizza and cake?"
Charlie let out a laugh."Yeah, you guys didn't get the concept of sharing back then!"
Peggy nodded, the absent look returned to her face, "Flo was so happy to see you again. And so sad when you never returned....Where have you been?"
"That doesn't matter." said Charllie guiltily. "Could you tell me where to find Flo?"
Peggy nodded. "I think she is living by the docks now."
Charlie gave her a nuzzle, "Take care Peggy."
Peggy turned, and Charlie caught a grimaced at her hind legs. One bore a large laceration. It was red and puffy, probably infected. Charlie shuddered and headed back out of the church. After he found Flo, he would come back and see if he could help Peggy with her leg.
-How do you like? Should I continue?
