Chapter eight: Into the lair
"Why in the middle of a bloody forest?!" Don grumbled as yet another twig whipped his face. "Why couldn't it be on a nice island were the fruit is always ripe and the fish are always swimming?"
"That place is tooken, Donny" Dante told him, pointing above.
"Ohhh, yeah, the place you ain't heading!" Don said, sarcastically, shoving past his friend. Dante stared at him before chasing him to discuss the matter with him.
"So, what does this sister of yours look like?" Charlie asked Britney.
"Like me, really" Britney shrugged. "Jack is black and white with strange ginger tufts..."
"He won't be hard to miss then..." Sasha muttered. Britney shoved her in an obnoxious way for dissing her friend and snarled at her. Sasha turned her head childishly away from her. Britney rolled her eyes and muttered something rather rude about her fellow setter.
"Is that it?" Dale said, loudly and obnoxiously. Charlie slightly grimaced at Dale's loud voice and glared back at him. He had already tooken a dislike for the punk rock mutt. Not only was he grumpy and loud but he was whiny. The type Charlie really didn't like.
"Naw, that's just a huge creepy building in the middle of no where" Charlie said, sarcastically.
"Oh. Right." Charlie rolled his dramatically whilst everyone else grtoaned loudly at Dale's stupidity. "Wha?"
"Oh... nothing" Charlie said. "C'mon guys." The climbed the long winding hill up to the building before noticing four mutts outside the building.
"Carface..." Charlie snarled. Dante's ears perked up.
"What? Carface?!" He looked at the over weight mongerl and groaned in annoyance. "Awww, this just gets worse."
"Heeeey, that guy owes me ten bucks!" Don seethed, snarling towards Killer.
"Speaking of bucks, don't you owe me five?" Britney asked her brother.
"Do they usually go off like this?" Charlie muttered to Soapy.
"Always" she replied, rolling her eyes.
"Who's the green chics?" Dale whispered, trying to change the subject of him having to pay Britney.
"I have no idea..." Charlie muttered, watching the tallest of the green mutts get up and wander towards them slightly.
"She gives me the creeps..." Itchy whined, after being silent for quite some time.
"Who cares, she's pretty dang gorgeous" Dale said, grinning.
"That is really... all you care about, isn't it?" Britney hissed. "Speaking of caring, where is my five bucks?!"
"Guys, can you just shut up... for like... two seconds?!" Charlie snapped.
"Got it!" Dale said, nodding. Charlie looked at Britney as if asking her You live with that?
Britney merely shrugged in response.
"Come forward!" yelled a voice softer than velvet yet sharper than a knife. Charlie snarled but led the group towards the green dog. She stood there, as still as a statue, waiting for the group to get close enough.
Dale instantly sprang forward and pressed himself against her. "Hey baby", he cooed, "What's your name?" She looked at him before shoving him away. Dale fell ungracefully to the ground.
"Don't touch me" she snarled.
"She's fiesty, I like it" Dale smirked. The green dog rolled her eyes before continuing.
"I am Arakiti, guardian of Belladonna's base" she said, proudly.
"That's a pretty name!" Dale said, from the ground. Arakiti froze, her face clearly showing her deep irratation before sighing.
"And you are?" she asked.
"I'm Charlie Barkin and-!"
"ATTACK!"
"What?!" Instantly Arakiti pounced on him, catching them off guard and a dozen rebel dogs burst out from doors, barking and snarling. Dale scrambled to his feet to get away from them. Ruka watched fomr a distance, laughing at them. Arakiti chased Charlie through the rebel dogs, weaving their way through the crowd whilst the others were left with the pack. Suddenly, Charlie felt a sharp sensation on his back and he was thrown aside. He looked up to see a black and white blur pounce on the equally blurred Arakiti.
"Scott?!"
He glanced over to see Jimmy at the doorway, beckoning him over frantically. Charlie barked loudly for his pack to follow and ran through the door with Jimmy whilst the rest of Scott's pack continued to fight of the rebel dogs and Arakiti. Whilst Scott's pack distracted them, Charlie and his own crew followed Jimmy. He shut the door behind him to keep out the opponents after Dale yelled "CALL ME!" out the door at Arakiti.
"Jimmy!" Britney cried, happy to see a familar face to help them.
"Saint Jimmy" he growled, correcting her. "What the hell do you think you're doing?!"
"What are YOU doing?!" Charlie snapped.
"Raiding! It's what we do, actually" Jimmy said, his voice dripping with fake innocence.
"We're here to get Poppy..." Britney said. Jimmy looked at here.
"Poppy?"
"She was captured."
"No kid?! Oh, well then... what's he here for? Yenno Scott don't like people like Charlie around" Jimmy said.
"Coz he wants to find out Belladonna's plan, please Ji-... Saint Jimmy, can you just help us?!" Soapy snapped. Jimmy looked at her before grinning.
"Not without a price. I'll think of something later. For now, follow me" Jimmy said, padding down the hall. Charlie stayed behind with Britney.
"You know that guy?" Charlie asked her.
"Sure I do! That's Saint Jimmy" she smiled.
"Well he's a bright little flower, isn't he?" Charlie said, sarcastically. Britney frowned.
"No one knows why. If you ask him "What's her name?" he goes all... funny. And not funny ha-ha... but he just shuts down and doesn't speak for like... half an hour" Britney said. Suddenly, Soapy called her over so Britney left Charlie alone.
Something was up. Charlie looked around. Something didn't seem normal...
