It's heaven, life beyond dead. The living aren't supposed to know how that is and works. Simple as that. They just want to keep things underwraps. And the whole point of being in heaven is well, your dead, you're not going back, you're not SUPPOSED to go back. It's a rule. But if you where a good dog during life and disobey this rule for righteous reason (or redeem yourself during ya second life like Charlie) then it doesn't apply I guess.

I just have always felt that how Heaven (and Carface) treated Charlie was way too unfair and I've always felt sorry for him. At times, Annabelle almost seems eviler than Carface to me.

To quote Carface, 'Don't do the crime if you can't do the time'.

To quote Carface, 'Don't do the crime if you can't do the time'. Huh? What's that supposed to mean about poor Charlie?

Well, he did lead a bad life (gambling, stealing, was in a gang, probably killed many dogs, etc.) so to put it simply, he STOLE his life watch from Heaven, rewound it, therefore bringing himself back to life even though his time was up. (I mean, the guy got hit by a car for God's sake) therefore, he couldn't return to heaven and was sort of d**ned to Hell because of him disobeying the laws of Heaven because, even in death, he was the same.
However, when he learned to care and give to Anne Marie, I guess Annabelle decided that everyone deserves a second chance (especially when he went through so much to save her from Carface and help her get out of the fire and have her lived. But no good deed goes unpunished, when he went to retrive the watch he drowned doing so, therefore, he was sent to hell. The reason being probably why is because Annabelle didn't want to go back on her promise. But in the end Charlie showed just how much he really loved Anne Marie when he was able to see her one last time by the devil, apologizing for his faults, something he never did. So I guess Annabelle decided and really saw that the guy had heart, thanks to Anne Marie melting the ice, and she decided to let Charlie go back to Heaven where he belonged because he was indeed, a good dog.
And as for Carface, he's just a jerk. A big, fat, overweight, evil, jerk. Especially when he stole Gabriel's Horn, sided with the devil who had ownage of his soul, and therefore, was sent to Hell where he seriously belonged.
That's just my view on that.
Ugh. does this even make sense? Sorry, I just woke up from a nap and I'm still kind of out of it...

*Charlie gasps in shock!*
Charlie never killed anybody. That was Carface. Watch the movie closely and you'll see that Charlie was really a good dog, especially before being murdered by Carface. Sure, he stole some, but not that much. He cared about his buddies at the casino and was very generous. We also know he did many nice things for the orphan puppies with Flo. I don't know how many people have noticed this, but in Charlie's new casino, there's a sign that says "All Breeds Welcome." This was 1939 New Orleans. If Charlie had been human, he would have ignored segregation. Very noble for that day. Charlie's book in Heaven says lots of bad things about him, but I think it was overlooking many of his good traits. When he returned from the dead, he just became obsessed with shutting Carface down and got a little too carried away. Even at the height of his revenge obsession, he still found room in his heart to buy Anne Marie the dresses he promised. The end of the movie when all those dogs came to help Charlie rescue Anne Marie and defeat Carface really speaks for the quality of Charlie's character. Charlie must have been one of the most beloved dogs in New Orleans and I don't think he would have been so loved if he were half as bad as many people think he was. So, regardless of what Annabelle thinks, Charlie was always a good dog. *Looks around nervously to see if any archangels are nearby and whispers "Probably even more good than Annabelle"*.
By the way, please tell me what you think of my story idea in the Balto/Togo story thread.

Sorry Charlie. You know I love you! *hugs him*
And I wouldn't say more good than Annabelle. She is after all, the high angel....thingy.

I just had to defend Charlie. I like characters that are a little dark, like Edmund from Narnia. Charlie may have done some bad things, but i don't think he was a particularly bad dog. When I write my Balto/Togo story (if you guys are interested in it), I intend to show how these wonderful canines weren't perfect either by including some real events from their lives in the storyline.

Great! Do you know if anyone else is? I'm also trying to decide whether to just start writing or to try and develop the whole story first. What do you think? Also, do you have any suggestions for what you'd like to be in the story?

Soapy has made her point now. As for killing dogs, I doubt Charlie did though he might have.

David is trying to figure out why Charlie couldn't go back to heaven after he stole his watch and went back to earth. Everybody else here is trying to explain why he couldn't and Soapy came up with the explanation.
Simple enough for ya?
