That was a second chance to go back to earth and finish his life. And he also had a second chance to return to heaven. Well there are no such thing as second chances. Even though Annabelle said that all dogs can go to heaven, she probably forgot to mention that animals can't have a second chance. If you look at the 2nd movie, Carface was dragged down to heck and Annabelle didn't bother to help him out. They do have second chances. End of Movie 1 was Carface escaping hell, he was obviously welcomed back during the time skip between movies 1 and 2. Also makes you wonder HOW he got back. A deal with Red I bet.. but whatever it was it make the hireups in heaven allow him back. So, a second chance. Wich do exist..

Actually, Carface was "trying to" escape heaven. The biggest reason why Carface got dragged down to hell was because he was working with the Devil himself in the 2nd. If you look at what Charlie did in both movies, he did good deeds to get back to heaven. In the 1st: Saved Anne Marie over trying to kill Carface. In the 2nd: Got the horn and used it to get back all the dogs in the cells back to heaven plus saving David. Carface did nothing good at all. Also, Carface owed Red his own soul.

I obviously mistakenly wrote hell instead of heaven. But this makes you think, if he actually escaped heaven in movie 1, maybe while back it's when he first comes to encounter Red, Red makes it seem like he did something heroic or w/e, Annabelle buys it, and welcomes him back.

Of course, maybe Charlie never was in Heaven all that time and he was in some sort of purgatory or alternative hell were his punishment was to be bored out of his mind, made to feel bad, and get dressed up in embarassing clothes.

Just a joke. Since Charlie is the only dog besides Carface that isn't content with Heaven, maybe it was by design. Seriously, I sometimes think that maybe the reason Charlie couldn't find his peace there was because he still had a destiny on Earth and since he hadn't learned all he needed to from this world, he really wasn't ready for the next.

That's kind of how I view it. Sometimes things happen for a reason, and maybe Charlie was meant to be a serving angel from the get go. And it makes sense to have an angel like him helping people, because he comes from the same type of enviroment as the people he helps.

Hang on were talking about Charlie here. Charlie may not have been a slimeball like Carface but he was supposed to be a con man and probably stole. In the song " You cant Keep a Good Dog Down" he sings " But 10 to 1 I'll still be running rackets till I'm old. " A racket is basically organized crime. My guess is Charlie is an affliate of Carfaces Mob. Basically a gangster.

The Other Side must hate Charlie. He escapes Hell by saving a little girl, foils Red's plans, beats Carface 2x, and helps kids like David. The darn mutt won't even stay dead like a good little angel. That doesn't even cover all the Belladona stuff.
In any event, I like to think that Heaven secretly intended Charlie to be special from the start because the world needs little miracles like him. God bless you Charlie.
