Many of you probably do or do not know, but a couple of weeks ago, MGM filed for bankruptcy.

Bankruptcy means MGM is still in business, but they have to figure out a way to pay off their debts and they have some government protection. I'm hoping that to try to raise money, they'll release some of their old films, like maybe a certain celestial canine movie.

They are releasing their 2 top classic films: The Wizard Of Oz and Ben Hur in hopes of making money. I don't think they will ADGTH.

I love the Wizard of Oz! I don't see how it's "wrong".
But bankruptcy means that they CAN go out of business, right? I'm just curious, I would to get my finance straight before I face the big bad world alone...

^^ Somebody who doesn't like The Wizard of Oz? I never thought I'd hear those words, at least not from a female.
Yes, bankruptcy means they can go out of business, but I doubt they will. Even if they do, I'm sure somebody will buy the rights to all their movies.

Yes, bankruptcy does mean MGM can still go out of business. Essentially, this means whichever bank they owe money to pretty much "owns" them and could auction off their assets should they decide that's the best course of action. "The Wizard of Oz" will certainly make them a lot of money, especially if they considered re-releasing it in theaters. Do you know how many millions of people would flock to the theaters just so they could see "Oz" on the big screen? I'd probably be one of them, just so I could imagine it was 1939. Barring that, if MGM could find some really good behind-the-scenes stuff or deleted material to release on DVD, they'd pretty much have themselves a goldmine. Not sure what they could do for "Ben Hur" though. Maybe digitally remove that little red anachronism of a car in the background of the chariot races?

I hope they rerelease ADGTH or at least do a special edition dvd. Honestly, movie makers should rerelease more of their old classics.

I agree. If they could get Don Bluth to do an audio commentary for the film, I'd totally buy a new copy of the DVD. What I'm not sure about is if they even own the rights to some of their films anymore. I noticed that my copy of "Oz" was actually released by Warner Brothers. Food for thought.

Soapy, I guess you don't like the movie because of the witch right? david. There is no chance for a rerealese of ADGTH. It's not really much of a classic anymore. The big reason is that it didn't make much money in theatres. The Wizard Of Oz And Ben Hur were the top 2 grossing films inthe MGM industry, that is pretty much why they releasing these movies.
